Vroom ................Get ready for a Book Drive!

Did you know that in middle income neighborhoods ratio of books per child in 13 to 1, while in low income neighborhoods this ratio is 1 age appropriate book per 300 children!

Lets close the gap on literacy by sharing more books.

We would love to re-use, reduce and recycle, so share a gently used book or donate a new book if you like. You can help by organizing virtual or In person book drive. Here are some helpful tips.

Virtual Book Drive

  • Communicate on your online platform (social media, neighborhood app, discord, etc) and include links to our amazon.com wishlist , along with the beginning and end dates for your drive. We will be happy to provide you with a "Project Smile AZ book Drive" flyer with proposed dates one you finalize to share on your social media page.

  • Let donors know you’ll be collecting new children’s books to promote literacy. Be sure to stress that we need children’s books in new and new-like condition. We cannot use: textbooks; encyclopedias; library discards; moldy, torn, smelly, or obsolete books or books with handwritten personal comment/writings.

  • Give frequent updates on how the drive is progressing to encourage more donations before your deadline.

In-Person Drive

  • Select a particular period of time – from a week to a month – to hold the drive and coordinate with the organization, school, or business where the book drive will be held.

  • Notify your community a few weeks in advance about the drive through social media, newsletters, email, flyers, or posters and word of mouth. Include your contact information, locations of collection bins, and the beginning and end dates of your drive on the informational flyer.

  • Let donors know you’ll be collecting new and new-like children’s books to promote literacy in your local community.

  • Be sure to stress that we need children’s books in new and new-like condition. We cannot use: textbooks; encyclopedias; library discards; moldy, torn, smelly, or obsolete books or books with handwritten personal comment/writings.

  • Provide big, sturdy, and well-marked collection bins in an accessible and protected location.

  • Give frequent updates to encourage more donations and pickup regularly.

When your drive is over, Email us the amount of books collected, with information about your drive. We will provide a mailing address based on the number of books collected.
